The International Rally Championship Malaysia 2024 (MIRC 2024) has been announced to return and color the exhilarating world of rally car racing after 5 years of silence without any race organization.
Enhancing the prestige of the internationally recognized race, sanctioned by the national motor sports governing body Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia (KBS), the participation of rally drivers from China, Thailand, and Indonesia is expected to challenge the local drivers who are increasingly shining in this region.
The first round of the race will take place over three days in Kuantan, Pahang from March 8th to March 10th, 2024, before heading to the second round destination in Melaka from June 7th to June 9th, 2024.
Johor will host the third round of the rally races scheduled for September 6th to September 8th, 2024, before Perlis becomes the final destination to close the race curtain scheduled from December 6th to December 8th, 2024.
The rally championship, organized by the Millennium Motorsport Adventure Club (MMAC) under the leadership of Dato’ Seri Mohamad Khafey Ikhwan Abdul Latif, paints a different picture of race organization this time compared to previous ones, with various carnival-like side events taking place to attract the public to experience the rough racing sport.
For the record, the last time a rally car race was held domestically was during the Tri-Nation Sprint Rally, which saw only 12 racing cars participating. It took place from March 23rd to March 24th, 2019, in Tanamera, Sungai Buluh. That same year, the annual Malaysian Rally Championship (MRC) was also suspended due to financial issues.
