The most prestigious 15-a-side rugby championship season in the country, eagerly awaited by every local rugby team, is set to kick off its first match on September 7, 2024.
Terengganu stands as the sole representative from the east coast, continuing their campaign in the 40th edition of the championship. They have been drawn into Group B alongside last year’s runners-up, Federal Territory of Putrajaya, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan, and Perlis.
Adding to the excitement, DTYM Yang Dipertuan Muda Terengganu, Tengku Muhammad Ismail Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, has graciously agreed to rejoin the Terengganu Rugby team. His return follows a stellar performance last season, where he led the team to a resounding 72-06 victory over Selangor in the opening match.
In the previous edition, Terengganu’s journey to the semi-finals was halted by a narrow defeat, losing by just ‘1 try’ to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). PDRM’s remarkable run didn’t stop there, as they went on to make history by winning the championship for the first time, defeating Federal Territory of Putrajaya 29-22 in the final.
