The rally team based in Kuala Terengganu, Eastcoast Rallying, kicked off this season’s racing calendar with great significance after dominating the top spot in the P10 category during the two-day action of the Rally Sprint X-One Championship, which concluded last Sunday at Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), Serdang.
Adding to the excitement for the team, the Honda Jazz GE vehicle, fully tuned by R&R Sports Speed Garage as the technical partner of Eastcoast Rallying this season, proved to be the best bet to gain momentum on the first day of the race, leading by a margin of 12 seconds for an overall time of 21 minutes and 21 seconds, ahead of the Mitsubishi Evo 8 rally car owned by the Marcars Motorsports team in the P12 category, driven by the national rally sports legend, Karamjit Singh, along with co-driver Deveender Singh.
On the second day of the race on the fully tarred circuit, the scorching hot weather posed an additional challenge for Eastcoast Rallying to complete the race with a time of 12 minutes and 4 seconds, accumulating an overall time after two days of racing of 33 minutes and 25 seconds.
This result placed Eastcoast Rallying in first place, creating a gap of 7 seconds to deny the Magnax Racing Team the second place, with the EZZ Machine team securing the third place with a time of 34 minutes and 1 second in this P10 category.
Adding to the excitement at the start of this season, Eastcoast Rallying, driven by Terengganu native Ir. Ts. Muhammad Syakirin Razaki alongside co-driver Amir Izham from Kota Bharu, also secured the third place overall in the two-wheel drive (2WD) category, achieving a double podium finish, providing additional momentum for the team based in Kuala Terengganu to continue improving on their performance record from last season.
“Alhamdulillah, it’s a good momentum at the start of the season for Eastcoast Rallying, where our mission this year is to improve our performance record compared to last season.
“On the first day of the race, we didn’t expect our small CC capacity machine to be able to overtake the Mitsubishi Evo 8 driven by national rally legend Karamjit Singh. It was a great motivation to finish the race on the second day for the team.
“We hope this success momentum doesn’t stop here, as we are still aiming for several podiums throughout this season,” said Eastcoast Rallying driver Ir. Ts. Muhammad Syakirin Razaki.
Meanwhile, for Eastcoast Rallying co-driver Amir Izham, the long-established compatibility with team members was the main factor contributing to securing the podium this time.
“The technical challenges posed by the circuit provided by the organizers were not an easy track to interpret by the co-driver to the team’s mechanics who handle the vehicle under considerable pressure.
“However, the established compatibility since 2017 among us gave Eastcoast Rallying the advantage to achieve the podium this time,” said Amir Izham, the co-driver of the East Coast Rallying team who also founded the team in 2017. Amir Izham is also a certified PADI scuba diving instructor and was once crowned the overall champion of the Malaysia Rally Championship (Junior Category) 2012 alongside driver Dinie Nazmi Abd Rahman.
In the records of last season’s Rally Sprint X-One stage, East Coast Rallying completed the P10 category race with an overall time of 37 minutes and 42 seconds after navigating through 3 track races (Leg) on the fully tarred circuit, covering 9 special stages (SS) for a total distance of 24.43km.
For this season’s edition, the third staging of the Rally Sprint X-One event will feature 8 special stages (SS) covering a total distance of 24.43km over two days of racing for 5 focus categories and 6 other contested categories.
