The adrenaline-pumping Monsun Ombak Challenge, known for its adrenaline-pumping kayak races that conquer the roaring waves of the northeast monsoon or the transition season, will once again captivate enthusiasts at the Pulau Kekabu Recreational Park in Marang. The sixth edition, slated to run from February 29 to March 2, 2024, promises to deliver another thrilling spectacle.

Continuing its tradition of offering lucrative cash prizes to winners, this year’s edition, like its predecessors, waives any participation fees for contestants. Moreover, all racing equipment is provided by the Terengganu Canoe Association, the event organizer.

“It’s undeniable that since the inception of the event, no participation fees have been charged, which has been a cornerstone of our event’s success. Additionally, participants need not worry about bringing any racing gear, as everything is meticulously arranged by us,” said Dzulkafli Abas, President of the Terengganu Canoe Association and the technical director of the Monsun Ombak Challenge since its inaugural edition in 2015.

The sixth edition of the competition will showcase the ‘Sit On Top Racing (SOTR)’ kayak, a first in the history of the event. In previous editions, the ‘dancer classic perception’ kayak was the vessel of choice for the 200-meter race.

Six categories will be contested, including two exclusive to Terengganu, while the remainder is open to participants from both domestic and international arenas.
