The only professional rally team hailing from Kuala Terengganu, East Coast Rallying, has secured its spot in the upcoming Rally Sprint X-One race, set to take place over two days starting from December 9th until December 10th, 2023, at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), Serdang, Selangor Darul Ehsan.
This two-day race will feature 8 contested categories, including 4 main categories and additional race categories for amateur riders, including women and classic vehicle categories, which are sure to capture the attention of local motorsport enthusiasts. Adding prestige to the event, the first round of this rally race will be held at night, providing an additional challenge for every racer.
Established since 2017, East Coast Rallying, led by Kuala Terengganu native Ir. Ts. Muhammad Syakirin Razaki and his co-driver Amir Izham from Kota Bharu, Kelantan Darul Naim, has been coloring the local rally racing scene.
“It’s a great honor for us, as a small team from the east coast, to compete on the championship stage of Rally Sprint X-One for the second edition. We missed the opportunity to participate in last year’s inaugural event due to technical issues with our team,” said Ir. Ts. Muhammad Syakirin Razaki, who has been involved in rally racing since 2017 and was crowned champion in the overall Malaysian Rally Championship (Junior Category) 2012 alongside Azmeer Yusri Yusof.
Meanwhile, Amir Izham, who will be acting as the team’s navigator, expressed gratitude for the team’s trust in him.
“Yes, it’s a tremendous honor for me, as I have been with East Coast Rallying since 2017. I will do my best and hope luck is on our side. The unpredictable weather is not a hindrance for us, as we have raced in extremely challenging situations before. If it rains, it could work to our advantage, but we’re not hoping for worse conditions,” said Amir Izham, also the co-founder of East Coast Rallying with extensive experience in off-road motorsport since 2008. Amir Izham is also a certified PADI scuba diving instructor and was crowned the overall champion of the Malaysian Rally Championship (Junior Category) 2012 alongside rider Dinie Nazmi Abd Rahman.
