Qabil Irfan Azlan, a young motorcycle racer born in Kuala Terengganu and also the champion of the FIM MiniGP World Series 2023, is gearing up for a new challenge as he prepares to compete in the Spanish Motorbike Championship (ESBK) Moto 4 in April, even during the fasting month.
According to his father, Azlan Abd. Rahman, 48, although Qabil, 12, doesn’t have any specific targets set, he remains optimistic that his son can compete with more experienced riders.
Azlan explained that he and Qabil will be in Spain for almost a month to participate in the ESBK Moto4, only returning to Terengganu a few days before Aidilfitri.
“We will be observing Ramadan in a foreign land this time, but these are sacrifices that need to be made if he wants to further his career in the world of motorcycle racing.
“Qabil will undergo early preparations to adapt to the machine and track conditions before the actual race at the Jerez Circuit on April 6th and 7th,” he said when interviewed.
Azlan further emphasized that Qabil’s participation in the ESBK Moto4 serves as an early exposure for the young rider, who gained fame as the champion of the FIM MiniGP World Series 2023 in Valencia.
“Competitors in this category are more experienced as they have the appropriate equipment in terms of machinery and track for training compared to Qabil.
“Nevertheless, this is the right time to prove his abilities, and I hope everyone will pray for Qabil’s safety and success,” he added.
In the upcoming race at the Jerez Circuit, Qabil will be racing for the Spanish team, VHC Frando Racing, and is scheduled to participate in pre-season tests on March 16th and 17th.
The first stage of the race will take place at the same circuit on April 6th and 7th, followed by the next stage on June 1st and 2nd at the Valencia Circuit.
